Tamar Sharon:
My research explores how people engage with new and emerging biomedical technologies in a context of shifting and competing understandings of health, citizenship and well-being. This entails, on the one hand, an inquiry into how everyday uses of technologies help shape what people do, what they value and how they understand themselves, and on the other, an analysis of broader socio-political discourses on participation, responsibility and sustainability. Most importantly, it is the nature of the relationship between these two levels – of the everyday and of dominant discourses – that I seek to understand.
Different aspects and means of conducting this exploration have shaped the various research projects that I have undertaken since my graduate studies: human enhancement (PhD); healthy citizenship (NWO-Rubicon grant); self-tracking for health and personalized healthcare (NWO-Veni grant).
Dr. Tamar Sharon wint Edmond Hustinxprijs
Tijdens de feestelijke opening van het academisch jaar is de Edmond Hustinxprijs voor de wetenschap 2015 toegekend aan Dr. Tamar Sharon, voor haar onderzoek ‘The Googlization of Medical Research’.
De Edmond Hustinx prijs voor de wetenschap wordt uitgereikt door de Universiteit Maastricht namens de Stichting Edmond Hustinx aan een jonge, veelbelovende onderzoeker. De prijs bedraagt €15.000 onderzoeksbudget.
Tamar Sharon (Faculteit der Cultuur- en Maatschappijwetenschappen) promoveerde in 2011 cum laude in Israël op de ethische en sociale gevolgen van technologieën om de mens te verbeteren en won daarvoor de Mara Bellar Prize. Eerder ontving ze een Rubicon-beurs (2012) en een Veni-beurs (2014). Ze onderzoekt hoe mensen met technologie omgaan ter bevordering van de gezondheid.
Naast verschillende wetenschappelijke artikelen publiceerde ze een boek over dit onderwerp. Haar onderzoek is vernieuwend omdat het een alternatief biedt voor de dominante opvattingen over gepersonaliseerde gezondheidszorg.
